Building a Homemade Wind Generator Blade

Make Renewable EnergyWind generator blades are the most important component in the working of the wind generator. These blades are normally arched and big, and they are similar to the airplane’s prop blades, and these blades are the excellent source for producing power. Producing the own wind generator blade is the good method to reduce the making cost of the wind generator and it also gives more satisfaction and confidence. This article gives a brief look at how to build the homemade wind generator blades to save the money.

It is highly important to select the right material to build the blades as it has direct impact on the efficiency of the wind generator. Some of the items that are utilized to make wind blades are wood, metal, and plastic. Woods are believed to be the good choice for the yesteryear traditional wind generators, metal are the easiest item to work with, and plastics are the ideal item to make the blades. It is highly recommended to build the blades with PVC pipes because of so many reasons such as the wood can crack, wood absorbs water, and the crack makes wood to absorb water. Also, wooden blades are very difficult to make and very time consuming.

To make three wind blades, an individual need 4” or 6” PVC pipe, which is less than 4’ long and for blades that is less than 30’’ long, an individual can use 4” diameter PVC. For making blades between 30” and 48”, one may need a PVC pipe of diameter of 6” PVC pipe. First, middle line should be drawn down the pipe, as the blades branch from the centerline and thus makes more power. The blade should be sharpen for about 5” at the base and 2 ¾” at the tip, and then cut the blades at the marked line.

Smooth the cut edges around the cut area to get the neat finish and before poising the blades, paint the blades with the UV covering paint. UV covering paint shields the PVC pipe from becoming brittle due to the direct sunlight exposure. For equalizing the blades, place them on the hub and place the hub on the piece of steel rod with few pillow block support. Rotate the blades to find out the bottom blade and cut down the bottom blade little more than the other blades, as balanced blades are good than the unbalanced one.
